Clinical Psychology PsyD: Fresno/Sacramento

A PRACTITIONER-SCHOLAR PROGRAM

The APA-accredited*, on probation, Fresno/Sacramento Clinical PsyD Program is designed primarily for students interested in clinical practice. The program emphasizes clinical skills and the application of research knowledge with diverse populations in a wide range of settings.

TREATING HUMANS, SEEING HUMAN SYSTEMS

The program takes a systemic approach, training students to consider the role of diverse systems in creating and/or remedying individual and social problems such as child abuse. It also teaches students to think beyond treating individual problems to becoming advocates for groups of clients with similar issues. In this way they can become powerful agents of change in society.

SPECIAL FRESNO PROGRAM FEATURES

Fresno/Sacramento PsyD students benefit from several unique campus-specific features:

  • Psychological Services Center: Campus-based practica in Fresno are conveniently offered in the Psychological Services Center, under the supervision of the clinic supervisors and/or faculty.
  • Emphasis Areas: The Fresno/Sacramento PsyD program offers the selection of one or more of the following to develop areas of focused study and clinical expertise:
  • Ecosystemic child
  • Clinical forensic psychology
  • Health psychology

Students may elect to be trained as generalists sampling from any of the emphasis area courses. Please be aware that because of the smaller class sizes at Sacramento, all the courses required for a given emphasis area may not be offered there. As a result, Sacramento students may need to travel to Fresno for some courses.

DURATION AND REQUIREMENTS

The PsyD program takes a minimum of four years to complete, with the fourth year spent in a full-time internship. A doctoral research project is required.

FRESNO: A GREAT PLACE TO STUDY AND TO TAKE A BREAK

The proximity of the Fresno campus to national parks and lakes offers opportunities for sightseeing, hiking, kayaking, skiing and other recreational activities, to offset the intensive pace of doctoral training. These amenities combine with a relatively low cost of living to make the strong Fresno programs especially attractive.

SACRAMENTO: A SATELLITE AND A WORLD OF ITS OWN

As a satellite campus, Sacramento is completely integrated with Fresno. Sacramento students have access to their local staff and faculty as well as full access to the Fresno services, staff and faculty. Approximately two to four courses per semester are taught via videoconference from Fresno to Sacramento. At least one course is taught via videoconference from Sacramento to Fresno. Students are welcome to travel between sites to attend courses.

As California’s capital, Sacramento provides a host of cultural and recreational opportunities and activities.
