The APA-accredited* Clinical Psychology PhD program on the Fresno campus of Alliant International University has a scholar-practitioner model, focusing on clinical training and research, with a strong additional focus on preparation for teaching psychology.

The Fresno Clinical Psychology PhD program introduces students to the ethical values and orientation of the professional psychologist and provides a background in the psychological, biological and sociocultural factors that influence human behavior. Students develop research competencies and build the technical skills to work effectively with diverse populations in clinical settings.
TREATING HUMAN BEINGS, SEEING HUMAN SYSTEMS
Our program takes a systemic approach, examining the role of ecosystems such as family, ethnic, religious, medical, legal or dominant culture to create and/or remedy individual and social problems. We also train students to consider the potential value of advocacy, consultation or public policy work to help individuals and groups of clients with similar issues.
SPECIAL FRESNO PROGRAM FEATURES
Clinical Psychology PhD students at the Fresno campus benefit from several unique
program features:
- Psychological Services Center: Campus-based practica are conveniently offered in the Psychological Services Center, under the supervision of the clinic supervisors and/or faculty.
- Emphasis Areas: Fresno offers (but does not require) the selection of one or more areas of focused
study:
-- Clinical forensic psychology
-- Ecosystemic child psychology
-- Health psychology
In addition to the primary emphases, the Fresno PhD program is committed to offering a broad array of elective courses reflecting theory, assessment, and intervention across a variety of systems, with a particular emphasis on multicultural and diversity issues. The importance of the cultural system is emphasized throughout students’ academic and clinical training.
PROGRAM DURATION AND REQUIREMENTS
The Fresno Clinical Psychology PhD program requires a minimum of five years to complete. The fifth year is usually devoted to a fulltime internship, although the option for two halftime internships in the fourth and fifth year is available. All students must complete a PhD dissertation.
