San Francisco Bay Area Community Services & Placements
GAIN SKILLS, MEET CRITICAL NEEDS
A strong integration between academics and hands-on work skills was one of the original precepts behind the founding of the California School of Professional Psychology (CSPP). Students at the San Francisco campus of Alliant International University have exceptional opportunities to gain practical skills as they provide crucial services to under-served populations.
Oakland Psychological Services Center (PSC)
Central to the clinical training of San Francisco CSPP students is the Oakland Psychological Services Center (PSC), an outpatient community mental health clinic providing services in downtown Oakland and community settings across the Bay. The PSC runs programs for adults, children and families, with different approaches depending on client needs. All treatment modalities foster sensitivity to ethnicity, class, race, gender and sexual orientation.
Family & Violence Institute
More than 2,500 individuals, couples and families have received clinical services, and over 8,000 persons have received training through the Family and Violence Institute, which offers psychoeducational interventions for men, women and children who are victims or perpetrators or violence or witnesses to it. It also provides in-service training for organizations and services to community-based agencies.
Head Start: Napa/Solano Counties
The Napa-Solano Head Start program offers counseling services to high-risk preschool children and their families, who typically experience many stressors in their lives. It also provides consultation to Head Start teachers and staff and parent skills training.
Mental Health Pilot for Special Education Pupils
Many public school special education students need services that are unavailable through public sources and too expensive for their families on their own. In response, CSPP has developed mental health pilot and assessment programs to provide appropriate treatment plans and outpatient therapy for a number of these students.
Organizational Consulting Center (OCC)
The Organizational Consulting Centers (OCC) at the San Francisco campus functions
as small business unit within CSPP. We offer consulting services to businesses and
organizations in the private and not for profit sectors and draw upon the expertise
and interests of our faculty and students.
Most of the OCC’s client projects deal with issues of performance effectiveness and
efficiency of individuals, departments, and entire organizations. Students who are
selected to assist with such projects will gain hands-on experience working closely
with a faculty member or one of our local consultant affiliates in performing work
such as restructuring organizations, team building, culture realignment, leadership
development, or coaching services. The type and number of projects vary from year
to year and by campus because they depend on the initiative, creativity, personal
contacts, and available time of students and faculty who enjoy these types of challenges.
